Although there are Photos of my operation I thought that this would be most relevant and so I have dedicated this page to those that wish to see the operation first hand.
Remember this site is for you, to come to terms with this awful disease, and also perhaps to learn that this is not the end...

A very moving email from Valerie
My Dad worked at a shipyards painting ships, and he was over-exposed to chemicals which caused the cancer. That and smoking. In 1989 he was diagnosed with lung disease and cancer of the larynx. In 1991 he had the laryngectomy. The doctors originally gave him 7 years to live. I am only 22 years old, so it all happened when I was young. My Dad was 64 when he passed away. He had many other things wrong with him. He'd had knee replacement surgery, diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, cataracts… It was his lungs that eventually gave out. After being in so much pain for so many years, he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
I don't know if you were expecting all this information, but I'm glad I could share. :)

Now we are into the new year by Boycey
Hi all. First I want to say thank you so much for all your support over this past year and now we are well into this year we can really think about what we are trying to achieve for the future. A Laryngectomy is not the final and in fact its the beginning of a new life for some people, I for one know this to be true because my life changed so much. I must say though it was for the better in most ways and lets face it if I had not of had the Operation in the first place I probably would not be here now writing this blog. I am one of the lucky ones that had my cancer cured by this operation but unfortunately there are many out there that are still going through the agonies of this awful disease in some way and my heart goes out to them.
I feel that no matter how small a place we take in society that we all have a part to play in Life and sometimes it comes from some of the most unexpected corners. For an example " I was feeling a bit down and depressed some time ago due to the fact that I was finding hard to grasp that I could not speak, smell and taste properly any more you know,Generally feeling sorry for myself. Anyway my wife and I was in our local supermarket when from one side a man caught my attention. he had herd my voice whilst I was taking to Linda and yes he was a Laryngectomee like me, But the difference was he had been one for Twenty odd years. After a long conversation we said our good byes and I felt so much better for that little meeting.. There are times just by having a simple conversation with a stranger at the right time makes all the difference to life.
What I am trying to say is that we are always there and if you want to talk send us a line it makes so much difference to talk to a stranger that understands some times...Send me an Email and talk believe me it helps
